Today I wandered Ginza, the super expensive part of Tokyo. Fancy US style hotel for the first night, great idea; having that hotel be in the most expensive part of Tokyo, bad idea. Last night I was starving, and set out to find a restaurant that was marked in my guidebook as being delicious!
Trying to find さか田、(sakata) I found out how difficult it is to get around Tokyo. It's organized like no other city I've been in before. It's getting easier, but I'm still having trouble.
Turns out さか田 doesn't exist anymore. That's why I couldn't find it. So I entered a restaurant that had a "yakitori" sign outside of it...

Inside was a sushi bar, and it was SILENT. I was the only customer. Three people served me the most delicious sushi I've had in my life. In Japan, hospitality is everything, and I found that out quickly. It was awkward since my Japanese was rusty, but they were extremely kind, and soon I was telling them about my travels in China, why I came to Japan, and that it was my first night here.
I got the bill, and almost cried. 4300 yen, which amounts to about $43! Given, I had a beer, and I wanted to try almost every kind of sushi that they had, but LORDY. That used about all of the cash that I had brought.
Today went a little better. My Japanese is improving, and I made my way to hibishi park in the Ginza district...

I could finally relax a bit and enjoy my surroundings. There were turtles, sparrows, ravens, koi (goldfish), all over the park. People were eating their bentos (boxed lunch), painting watercolor, or simply sitting and enjoying the park.

I bought a ticket for tomorrow night to see an entire Kabuki show at the most famous Kabuki theater in Tokyo, and perhaps in all of Japan. I cannot wait!
Now my feet are hurting because I'm sitting Japanese style at a very low desk sipping green tea, so I'm going to say bye for now. I'll probably update daily or so, depending on what I do during the day, and where I am at night.
Sending love across the pacific!
